Gerhard und Margarete Hoehme Stiftung
The Gerhard und Margarete Hoehme-Stiftung (GMHS) was founded in 1998 by Margarete Hoehme (1922-2010), the artist’s widow, and with substantial assistance from Hans-Heinrich Grosse-Brockhoff, Düsseldorf’s Minister of Culture at the time. The foundation is managed by the Museum Kunstpalast. Its aims include preserving Hoehme’s artistic and written works, making these works accessible to an international audience, and organizing collaborative projects with international museums, institutions, exhibition spaces etc.
Altogether, the foundation presides over 60 paintings and objects, 122 drawings and 80 prints by the artist made between 1948 and 1988. The artworks all came from the artist’s estate. Academic and restoration work concerning the artworks is managed by the Museum Kunstpalast. Though the collection is weighted towards the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, this set of artworks also offers a representative overview of Gerhard Hoehme’s entire oeuvre. Since 2011, Hoehme’s extensive archive and library has been relocated from his studio in Neuss-Selikum to the Museum Kunstpalast. After processing has been completed, additional resources for academic study of the work may become available.

A complete catalogue of the Gerhard and Margarete Hoehme Foundation’s collection was published on the occasion of the foundation’s first presentation in 2000. Over 182 pages, 50 color reproductions and numerous black and white reproductions document most of the foundation’s collection.
